Guys, I am super pumped about being an American right now: the US Women's National Soccer team just won the 2015 World Cup...
AND, Saturday was Independence Day, or as everyone else but me calls it, The 4th Of July! I'm pretty much a big ball of patriotism right now... God I love when we kick ass (both in soccer and The Revolutionary War).
But the Macy's 4th of July Fireworks show on Saturaday was something to behold. Every year around this time, someone in my circle says something to the effect of, "I have a friend with a waterfront apartment with a perfect view of the fireworks." This year, I was that person!
My dear friend, Lisa, who you may remember from my trip to Cafe Orlin, had an absolutely perfect view of the fireworks. So, The B Man and I G trained it up to Long Island City in Queens, worked our way through the NYPD barricades, and up joined Lisa and her boyfriend for the most amazing display of fireworks I've ever seen.
From Lisa's window, we had a perfect view of the firework barges on The East River with the Manhattan Skyline gloriously standing behind it.
Oh hey there, I'm just taking in the view.
The B Man snapped some amazing pics, which speak for themselves.
That skyline never gets old.
And then, just to freshen it up a bit, the show began!
It was the best when all four barges were synchronized. I know it's all computerized, but I'm still impressed.
The B Man also managed to snag some kickass videos of the show (man it's nice to have a personal photographer).
I love the wonky smiley faces!
The videos and pictures hardly do it justice. We were so close we could feel the building rumble with every explosion and the energy of the crowd down below was unbelievable. About five minutes in I was thoroughly convinced my calling was to design fireworks show...then I realized that probably involves math, so I rethought my decision.
The display was completely awe inspiring and an experience I will never forget. It was more than enough to make me feel psyched about my country, my city, and my friend's amazing apartment. If you are a New Yorker yourself, or happen to be in town next 4th of July, The Macy's 4th of July Fireworks are absolutely not to to be missed, even if you don't have a friend with a waterfront apartment and a perfect view of the show :-p
