The thing I did the most of in LA was work (boooooo), another more pleasant thing I did quite a bit was hike! By far my favorite thing about LA is the easily accessible hiking trails pretty much everywhere. Aaaaand , to make it even better, the weather is so good you can take advantage of these trails all the time! So at least once a week, me, my sister, b-law, niece, and puppy dog, took the the trails to get some exercise, sunshine, and gorgeous views of the greater Los Angeles area.
We hiked all over Griffith Park, Runyon Canyon, and the Wisdom Tree (due to extremely high heat levels and having a baby and dog in tow, we did not make it to the wisdom tree and remain unwise). However, my very favorite of these hiking days, was our Malibu excursion.
On one of my last days in LA, we all piled into the car and drove out to the beauteous wonder of Malibu.
Lead by my brother-in-law and the incomparable Lucy Lebowski, aka Lulu B, we headed into the canyon.
We walked through meadow and glen.
Strangely, it was very green in the canyon, probably because there had been some rain two weeks prior. I haven't seen anywhere in California this green since I was a kid and it was an El Nino year, hopefully more rain is to come! Perhaps the East Coast could give California some of its excessive precipitation in exchange for some pleasant weather and sunshine? How do we make that happen? Anyone?
Lucy found a plant she thought was the bees knees and rolled around in it like a crazy banshee. As a result she smelled like maple syrup for three days... whatever it was she rolled in, it was amazing.
Who me? Oh why thank you, I worked very hard to smell so delicious! Now, excuse me while I lead us up the mountain.
We climbed until we reached the top of the ridge.
Naturally, I was pretty psyched and while the baby was fed, Lucy and I ran up that trail behind me and found a delightful surprise.
Left behind, by other hikers were some rock sculptures and sand drawings.
The little black head in the lower lefthand corner is Lucy who is fondly known in our family as Photo Bomb Lu.
Someone had even made a compass in the dirt to help point hikers in the right direction. And the view wasn't bad either.
It was so clear, you could see all the way to Catalina Island (in the picture below, it's the dark blob in the ocean on the left).
No joke, it was breathtaking.
Lucy abandoned me so I headed back to do some tree climbing. Although the b-law and the niece had beat me to it.
Don't worry, I got some tree climbing done too!
And some Auntie time as well!
But alas, the sun was setting and Lucy was anxious to get her herd home.
So we went back down into the canyon and headed home... but not before stopping at the beach!
Lucy was pretty pleased with this development.
And ran about like a crazy beast. Everyone got in on the beach action, even the wee one!
First time dipping her tiny tootsies in the ocean!
But eventually even Lucy tired, so we finally made our way home.
I'm sorry for not posting more while in LA. I was working quite a bit and was also busy being an Auntie. It's not that I didn't have a fantastic time (because I did), or that I didn't do anything fun (because I did), but I was doing things more just for me and less for blogging purposes. I was also thinking a lot about the blog and what I really want it to be and where I want it to go. Some changes will be coming the The Bees Knees over the next few months and I really hope you like them! Please send me your feedback and let me know what posts you like and which aren't your jam! You'll be getting some new content and some new voices on here and hopefully, you'll be as thrilled with it as I am!
