The other day I was sitting in poorly lit office, typing away, workin' for the man, when suddenly I received an invitation to attend the launch of Kara Ross's new line, Diamonds Unleashed. Feeling pretty put upon by my 9 to 5, I teamed up with my friend, Jessica, a writer for StyleBlazer, and we headed off to embrace our fabulosity and support a very worthy cause.
Upon arrival we snapped some pics on the red carpet (again, please forgive my stupid hair), grabbed some champagne
Made the rounds
and met this amazing oceanic dweller.
And took in the truly breathtaking views of the city.
Up on the 40th floor of the Hearst Tower, the view is really something to behold.
The city is sparkling at night and all the hustle and bustle of the streets seems so far away. Even with the DJ doing his thing, it was pretty peaceful.
We toasted ourselves and celebrated until Kara Ross herself took the stage.
Kara Ross explained that Diamonds Unleashed is a a brand with a purpose whose diamond jewelry lines and ambassadors support the empowerment and advancement of women.
Diamonds Unleashed is not a nonprofit, but it's profits do serve a purpose. Large donations are made to charities and organizations that align with the Diamond's Unleashed mission. Currently their nonprofit partners are Girls Who Code and She's the First.
Girls Who Code is a nonprofit that equips, inspires, and educates high school aged girls in the field of computer science with the hopes of giving the next generation of women the tools to close the gender gap in that field (and give women access to a growing, higher paying field as well).
She's the First is and international nonprofit that provides scholarships, support, supplies, and mentoring for girls in low-income countries who will become the first girl in her family to graduate from high school.
While I have to admit I was slightly skeptical about a diamond company promoting women's empowerment, their choice of nonprofit partners is incredibly admirable. I am a huge believer in providing education for women worldwide and both of these organizations seek to accomplish just that.
In too many places around the world (including our own country) women are discouraged from, barred from, or simply don't have access to quality education and the tools they need to provide for and advance themselves and their families. When you educate a woman, you educate the world and I'll happily endorse anything that promotes access to quality education for women and girls.
Not only does Diamonds Unleashed donate to these amazing charities, they also only use conflict free, Canadian Diamonds. Along with their mission of empowering women, Diamonds Unleashed is dedicated to ridding the market of blood diamonds and diamonds mined by enslaved persons. Canadian diamonds are regulated and ethically mined without the use of enslaved persons or children. No one should ever die so you can have something sparkly and with Diamonds Unleashed, you'll never have to worry about that.
Go check out Diamonds Unleashed new line on Instagram, Twitter, and their website and make sure that your diamonds (like women) do more than just sparkle and look pretty. See what I did there?
