In spite of the fact that I've been neglecting my blogging duties this week, I have some very exciting news: BKMG has been nominated for a Liebster Award! I was nominated by the lovely Hannah over at Blooming in the Rough. So a HUGE thank you to Hannah and now I will pause while you go check out her blog because it's delightful...
Back? Did you enjoy it? Okay good. Because the Liebster Award is all about recognizing and discovering smaller, developing blogs and bloggers helping each other grow. That is a message I can seriously get behind. Blogging is a very weird thing, because as much as I do this for myself (honestly I would really miss this if I shut it down), it's also something I do for other people and I get a lot of enjoyment from watching my thoughts on a play, or a recipe I've developed make its way with an audience of strangers out in the world. But the thing about audiences is that sometimes you have to compete for them and it's tempting to feel like because someone is reading another blog they aren't reading yours. However, that's not true and I love that the spirit of the Liebster Award is that there is enough room for all of us who want to have a place to share our voice on the internet.
I'm delighted to be nominated and very excited to be involved in this community.
So now down to the nitty-gritty. When you are nominated for a Liebster, you are required to do a three things:
- Answer the questions posed by the blogger who nominated you.
- Nominate 11 other blogs and notify them on social media.
- Create a list of 11 questions for the bloggers you nominate to answer.
I'm not sure why everything is "11" but I like it and I'm going to suggest that the official slogan of the Liebster Award become "These blogs go to 11" (10 points to anyone who catches my reference).
It's been a bit of a crazy week and since I missed Wednesday's post I thought I'd divide the Liebster post into two: one today, and one tomorrow. So, here we go. I'm going to answer Hannah's questions for me.
What’s your name and what does it mean?
My name is Meredith. It's Welsh and there are two meanings (a point of contention among Merediths). The first, and my fave, is guardian of the ocean... like a friggin mermaid, so yeah. The second meaning is, great ruler. I suppose I do like being right and telling people what to do, so maybe that one works too :-p
What is your favorite holiday and why?
Thanksgiving. Growing up, it was the only holiday we spent with my grandparents and cousins. My parents are from the same small town, so we would do two Thanksgiving dinners back-to-back and seeing as I can really put some food away, that was nice. But I always remember how complete things felt when I got to see all of both sides of my family in one day. That doesn't really happen anymore, but I still love Thanksgiving because of it.
What was your favorite childhood book?
Was? How about is? I can name so many I love to read to my niece and other kiddos in my life. But my favorite book when I was little was called Hiram's Red Shirt (it's out of print...what?). It was a Little Golden Book about a farmer whose favorite shirt gets a hole in it and he tries to fix it by cutting off the bottoms of his jeans or blanket etc. to patch it up. I just remember laughing and laughing about how silly it was that he thought that would work. I also really loved Amelia Bedelia and to this day love thinking about literal and figurative meanings. I crack up every time I see a sign that says "Watch Downhill Speed". I picture Amelia Bedelia driving 100 miles an hour just staring at her speedometer, causing mayhem.
What is your dream job?
I really don't know the answer to this one. Although I did read once that there is a job where you sleep in every room in a new hotel and rate it. That doesn't sound too bad.
Coffee or tea?
Both! I have one cup of coffee most mornings, but tea is one of the greatest beverages and always makes me feel like I'm hanging out with my mom in her kitchen.
What is your favorite movie?
The Godfather. It's also my favorite book.
Where did you grow up?
San Luis Obispo, CA. It's a lovely place where it is 75 degrees and sunny year round, beautiful scenery, really nice people, and lots of local culture. There are a lot of very talented artists in San Luis (as the natives call it), and the community makes a huge effort to support them.
What’s the first thing you do when you wake up?
I sing in my head "Waking Up is Hard to Do" to the tune of Neil Sedaka's "Breaking Up is Hard to Do".
What is your favorite part of every day?
When The B Man isn't traveling for work, my favorite part of the day is when I'm cooking dinner and he plays the guitar. I always think, "man, it really doesn't get better than this". When he is traveling, I really like watching the Today show in my pjams drinking my coffee.
What is your favorite season?
Summer. I hate being cold and I love eating tacos and drinking margaritas in the sunshine.
Where would you travel if you could go anywhere in the world?
Posiden Undersea Resort! It is such an issue for me that I can't breathe underwater.
So that's part one! I'll have my list of nominations and questions tomorrow! Thank you again Hannah! If you're a blogger/know a blog with 200 or fewer followers please post a link below for me to check out!
