We all know I love to cook. Truly, I'm the weirdo who is calmed by chopping vegetables at the end of the day. But every once in a while, even my nimble fingers need a break from the dicing, peeling, and stirring. More than that, occasionally I get food fatigue and simply can't come up with anything I want to cook.
Sometimes I just don't have it in me to think up a Sriracha Chicken Soup, Sweet Potato Mac and Cheese, or even Fudgey Avocookies and too much take out isn't good for anyone's waistline. So when food fatigue strikes, what is a lady to do?
Well, I have the answer and it's called Munchery. They are a new delivery service that takes the restaurant out of the equation and delivers chef-created, healthy, fresh, local, and best of all, affordable, meals right to your door.
The B Man and I are headed on a little trip (don't worry, you'll get to hear about it next week) and not wanting to fill the fridge with food just before heading off, I decided to give Munchery a try!
So here's how it works:
You'll be greeted by gorgeous photos of expertly prepared foods like, the Munchery Roll, the Atlantic Salmon Burger, and the Superfood Kale Salad. Notes on preparation, ingredients, and nutrition are readily available, which is really where Munchery sets itself apart from the restaurant crowd.
My favorite thing is that allergy/dietary notices are provided for all dishes, so if you are gluten free like me, or have any other dietary restrictions, you'll be able to spot a dish that is safe for you to eat with ease! And I have to say, there is pretty much something for everyone.
Select your items, add them to your bag, pick your delivery time window, enter payment info and you're all set (except for the part where you have to be there when it's delivered).
I opted for the Grilled Red Curry Steak, Grilled Lemongrass Chicken (both by Chef Eric Meas), and the Superfood Kale Salad (Chef Rachel Hazen).
My order arrived in neat little boxes with heating instructions.
They even added a special treat and a handwritten note!
I heated the oven up to 350 F (you can microwave as well) and removed the plastic tops.
Popped them in the oven.
And while I waited the brief 10 mins for heating, I dressed the salad.
The toppings and dressings all come on the side so you can add as much or as little as you like and nothing gets soggy.
Once the entrees were heated, I plated everything up and dug in!
Look at that curry steak! The coconut sticky rice was complete heaven.
The chicken even had perfect grill marks and let me tell you, those mushrooms where the stuff dreams are made of.
Truly, you can never go wrong with potatoes. Next to tacos and butter, they are my favorite food. Hmmm buttery potato tacos? Does that sound good to anyone but me?
You do want to get your order in earlier rather than later as they tend to sell out of items quickly. I sadly, missed the gluten free desserts even though I ordered before noon. Oh well, next time!
And everything was so perfectly prepared and wonderfully delicious, there will 100% be a next time.
Munchery currently operates in San Francisco, Seattle, New York City, and Los Angeles and will hopefully be expanding their dinner revolution to other cities soon! Prices in New York are comparable to, if not lower than most restaurants. The most expensive item on the menu the day I ordered was $13.95.
Munchery is also a company that gives back. They believe everyone should have access to healthy meals and for every meal ordered, a donation to a local food bank is made. So not only are you supporting local farmers and chefs by ordering from Munchery, you are also helping someone in your city get a nutritious meal.
Munchery is delivery you can feel good about and will definitely be in my delivery rotation from now on. So go ahead, download the app and get to munching!
