I've been blogging for about 6 months now and good God have I learned a lot! I had no idea what I was getting myself into when I started this and pretty quickly realized I'd made some mistakes in the general start up of this thing. I still have TONS to learn, but thought it was about damn time I put my newfound knowledge to use and made my blog a better experience for you kickass folks who have come along on this ride with me.
First off, The Bee's Knees was not an even remotely original name and caused a lot of confusion when it came to things like Bloglovin (which I didn't even know existed 6 months ago). Second, The Bee's Knees quickly started to sound really cutesy and I'm not a big fan of cute...unless it's in baby animal form, then bring it on. But overall, I felt the name wasn't really me and was too long and obnoxious.
Sooooo, I changed it! It's now BKMG, the BK can either stand for Brooklyn or Bee's Knees, your choice, and the MG is me! It's much more succinct and not quite as generic (hopefully). And to make things easier on you, you can either use the new url, bk-mg.com, or the old one, thebees-knees.com, still gets you here!
You might also notice the blog has a new layout, which will hopefully be easier for you to navigate and find the most recent posts. Now, on the homepage, the categories are grouped and you'll always see the most recent 3 posts in every category. You can also now click on the header and it will show you only posts in that category. Don't worry, you can still use the trusty navigation bar to get around.
The "Tumblr" style was easy to set up, but wasn't as organized as I wanted or a nice looking. I hope this layout is easier for you to use, will help you find the latest posts, and will generally make this blog a more delightful experience. Because my main goal for this blog is to delight!
When I started this in October of last year, I was existentially bored with my life and had forgotten that New York isn't just another place to live, it's a fantastical place to live! If I think back on myself half a year ago it's like looking at a character in a F. Scott Fitzgerald novel: terribly bored and listless whilst surrounded by wonder. Writing this blog has totally changed that. I'm now hyper-aware of how many unique and amazing experiences are constantly available to me and how much I had taken that for granted in previous years.
I still have lots to learn about blogging and a lot more to do in NYC, but for now, consider this blog facelift my thank you to you for reading, liking, sharing, and whatever else it one does with a blog.
Please, please feel free to comment or email with feedback on the new layout. I'll do my best to incorporate it!
Thanks!
MG
