First off, I must apologize for being a wee bit absent from the blog/Instagram/Twitter this week. As well all know, life happens and I just found myself too overwhelmed with long work hours and laundry and bathing and eating and still managing to call my mother to tell her I'm alive every once in a while (oh yeah, hi Mom! I'm alive!). Also, I apologize that this post is so lacking in pictures... I promise it makes up for it in heart!
Anyway, I have to admit, recently I've been feeling bogged down by all the small unpleasantries in life and letting them block out all the really great moments that exist in my days. While I'm not one of those people who only believes in positivity (because negative feelings exist for a reason and there is nothing wrong with feeling them so long as you don't let them consume your life and you listen to their messages), but "sweating the small stuff" is no way to live.
So yesterday, after being thoroughly irked that I had to take a bus and then a train to get from an appointment to my office, which really isn't a big deal at all, I decided I needed a shift in perspective; something to make me stop and recognize all the little moments of goodness, all the blessings, all the...I'm going to use my favorite word here, delights in my life.
I thought to myself, "man, I wish I could do a blog post about one thing every day that delights me!" but sadly I'm a human person who has another job that I spend about 50 hours a week at and doing a daily blog post just isn't in the cards right now. What I can do though, is a daily Instagram post!
So here's the deal, every day I'm going to post a picture of one thing that delights me, or shall we say my Daily Delight. I'll post it on my trusty Instagram account (@thebeeskneesmg) and also hashtag it #TheDailyDelight. I'll share my delights with you and I'd love if you share yours with me using the hashtag (and tagging me if you'd like)!
It's way too easy to start to see life as a series of tolerable events, so perhaps we can all lighten the burden by shifting our focus and paying a little more attention to the delightful things.
AAAAAND, since you are super cool and actually read this post, I'll expand a little bit on the inaugural Daily Delight.
I'm a very lucky girl in a lot of respects, but one of the luckiest parts of my life is that I spend most of my time with a super smart, funny, kind, talented (the list goes on an on) man, who while I make dinner at night has an amazing habit of playing the guitar. It's his little way of unwinding from after the work day. The thing is, he's really really good (like I'm not just saying that because I think he's handsome), and I love to hear the sounds of his strumming fill the apartment while I chop up veggies and occasionally improvise some lyrics that may or may not turn into some more than halfway decent songs! Anyway, having my own personal soundtrack to my cooking is one of the best things ever and I always find it to be one of the best parts of a day.
Make sure to follow me on Instagram, keep up with #TheDailyDelight, and share a few of your own!
