I have been told multiple times that I have a preoccupation with comfort. I'm not sure when it started, maybe I've loved comfort my whole life, but when I moved to New York almost 5 years ago, it reached a whole new level.
When I first got here, I was living in Manhattan. Now for those of you who have yet to visit The Big Apple, Manhattan is one of the most overwhelming (and wonderful) places on earth. It's constantly busy and filled with humans, dogs, cars, and weirdos roaming about like they own the place. There is literally a humming sound 24 hours a day, 7 days a week that the city emits. It was wonderful and I loved it, but living in a dorm room in a buzzing hub of the biggest city in the country is not the most comfortable thing in the world...especially in the dead of winter.
This is when I first noticed (although my mom would probably tell you it started at birth), how much I love being comfortable. Thank goodness I hightailed it out to Brooklyn shortly thereafter where things are a bit quieter and more spacious.
I love soft fabrics, warmth (either from the sun or literally anywhere else), and wearing things that make me feel like I'm not really wearing anything at all. I mean if I had my druthers clothing would totally be optional, but since it's not, I'll cling to whatever feels amazing to me.
And right now, my friends, that is the blanket scarf.
It's the next best thing to a Snuggie, which yes I do own in leopard, but it's a little more practical for the everyday professional lady who likes to be warm and it's a hell of a lot more stylish.
I was given my prized blanket scarf for Christmas last year from my oldest sister and was genuinely excited to bring it out when the crisp fall temps rolled around this year. And the fact that I could be delighted by anything involving the cold is nothing short of a miracle.
So you too can bundle yourselves in glory, or cloak yourselves in stylish warmth while traipsing about your town, I've pulled some of the most delightful blanket scarves the interwebs have to offer. Please enjoy and shop irresponsibly...I mean responsibly ;-)
This beauty form Zara can add a 'lil pop of color to your winter outfits, or be a picnic blanket in a pinch when spring rolls around.
Or, if you're looking for more of a South Western feel, maybe you'll dig this one.
And here's one for the color-phobic (no shame from me, man).
Oversized? NEVER!!!! This beauty from Asos is just right.
And if you're looking to invest a bit in something classic, Gilt has you covered.
This isn't even remotely a blanket scarf, but it's kind of amazing and I might have to purchase it.
I mean really, who wouldn't want to literally wear a blanket while looking tragically fabulous all at the same time?
It also makes a nice pillow if you need to take a nap at a moments notice... not that I've ever used it for that.
